I think the most significant activity the environmental group should do is to plant more trees worldwide. It is reported that the desert has occupied a fourth of the earth landing surface. And this process is increasing at a alarming speed. As we know, planting tree can reduce the erosion to green area by wind and soil from the deserts. So I turned to Marry for help. And she firstly calmed me down and then helped me to list all assignment and to give priority to them. So I could efficiently get my assignments done step by step.

4. I THINK, I THINK……

“This response is sustained and the speech is generally understandable. At times, though, the speaker’s pronunciation makes it difficult to understand the meaning of her ideas. She really gives only reason why she likes shopping. This reason is used repetitively without much elaboration. Shopping is something she likes very much and makes her feel better. She could have added complexity to her ideas by saying something like “when I go shopping, I usually go with friends and we have a good time together without thinking about jobs, or schoolwork.” She also makes some basic grammatical errors and uses a limited range of vocabulary.”

“The speaker is fairly fluent and easy to comprehend. However, there is some hesitancy or choppiness, which seems to occur as she searches for ideas and do not because of linguistic breakdown. In this response, the speaker has more difficulty using effective pause structure. She has a tendency to complete one thought and immediately begin the next, without pausing in between. At times she then stops and restarts the next idea, giving a somewhat rambling quality to the response. Minor but systematic grammatical errors occur but do not interfere with overall comprehensibility. The speaker states the woman’s problem clearly and with ease. Despite minor grammatical errors, she supports her opinion with fairly sophisticated reason.”

通过对点评的解读,不难发现,我们需要做的就是“state …clearly and with ease”。

Second, I have been interested in art since I was a child. I started to learn drawing when I was only 5 years old. I still draw every now and then today. While appreciating masterpieces by famous painters in the art history class, I could improve my drawing techniques.

Do you agree that childhood is the happiest (orprecious) time in life?

Yes, I deeply agree that childhoodis the happiest time in life. First, childhood provide no pressurewhich we have to face after grown up. When I was a child, I had little pressureas I have now. For instance, I rarely worried about exams when I was a kid, butnow exams really give me a lot pressure. Second,a child often has much time to develop his or her own hobbies. For example, Ipossessed more time to develop my own interests, such as painting and singing. However, I hardly have time to do what I want todo now. So in conclusion, I think childhood is thehappiest time in life.

As far as I am concerned, theuniversity education is really significant for a person. First of all,the knowledge we learn in U is the most difficult through our study career, soit is vital for us to increase our ability in thinking, talking and studying. These abilities are quite essential for us when we work. Second, U education is the advanced form ofeducation, it need us to communicate, to corporate, these are the things wecan’t learn deeply in primary school and high school. Soif we don’t join the U education, we will lose opportunities to develop,I consider this is really a huge regret.

Is Life easier or harder than our grandparents’?(12.10 independent writing)

I deeply agree that our life is easier thanour grandparents’. First of all, we are able to enjoy the conveniencebrought by internet. We can use internet to learn knowledge, get a variety ofinformation from outside world. What is more,we can enjoy many online entertainments such as chat and internet game. These are the things our grandparents can’t do in theirperiod. Second, we are able to travel to foreign countries easier viaairplanes or even private cars. Unlike our grandparents, it’s a lot moredifficult for them to travel abroad since the personal vehicles were not highlydeveloped in their period. So basing on this I saythat our life is easier than our grandparents’.

Someone focuses on one job throughout his life;others like to change from one job to the other. Which one do you think isbetter, why?

I consider people should change their jobin different age. First of all, changing the job through life willmake us more experienced and knowledgeable for we are able to study things indifferent aspects and communicate with people in different fields. Basing on this I consider people should sometimes changetheir job. Second, changing the jobwill make us less tired. For instance, when we are young, we could work like asells manager; it brings a lot of income but also needs much energy. So when weare old, we may not work in a perfect condition, then we could change a job.

In my point of view, I like to stay with an honest friend. I see honesty as the most important part of a friend because no one likes to hang around with a liar.

Also, I like my friends to be helpful just like my friend Tony. You know, I am bit weak with my math. Tony often spends his spare time explaining to me those difficult math problems. As a result I am doing pretty well in my math exams.

What's more, I like to stay with interesting friends. Tony is a lot of fun. He knows so many jokes that you can laugh yourhead off when you crack jokes with him.

4.Describe a person that influenced you most.

Sample answer:

The person that really influenced me most was Ms.Xing---my college teacher who taught us English literature.

Her class was quite different from the other teachers. In her class we were not expected to sit there and listen. We had to get more involved in the class activities, like discussions, comments or debates sometimes. Our creativity and imagination were developed enormously through the active participation.

On the other hand, she let us think more about life by sharing her experiences and more importantly, she taught me how to live on my own.So that's why I was greatly influenced. Not only did she give me knowledge, but also she gave me courage and confidence as well.

5.What are important characteristics you look for in friends?

Sample answer:

I think what makes a good friend is someone who is honest, supportive, and has a good sense of humor.I just look for someone who's honest to me no matter what.He should not tell stories behind my back;he should tell me my short-comings at my mouth, but never praises me in front of me.

It is a well known saying that “A FRIEND IN NEED IS A FRIEND INDEED.” Therefore,a friend should stand by you in the hour of any sort of need.I just think that a good friend won't leave me if I‘m in trouble. They can be my friends in sunshine and in shade, care for me even when the times are bad and even more when the times are great.

Also,I'd love to spend more time with someone who can make me laugh and is fun to be around.

6.What charactereristics do you think a good teacher should have?

Sample answer:

In my view,a good teacher should have different characteristics.

First,a good teacher should be faithful and dedicated to the job.If a teacher is faithful to the job, then s/he never cheats and will be impartial(偏向) and students will respect such a teacher. If a teacher is dedicated towards his/her work, then s/he will teach with his/her heart.

Another most important characteristic of a good teacher is patience.

Teachers should never lose their patience in class when students ask questions repeatedly.A teacher should explain each and every aspect of the topic in the easiest way.

Most of all,a good teacher should update his/her knowledge because further learning can make a good teacher re-discover the beauty of the teaching profession.

7.In your opinion, what is the most important quality of a good team member?

COLLABORATIVE --- Working together precedes winning together

ADAPTABLE --- If you won't change for the team, the team may change you

ENTHUSIASTIC --- Your heart is the source of energy Etc

sample answer:

In my point of view, one of the important qualities a team-player should have is to be co-operative. You see, working in a team means we cannot be an ego-maniac who does not care about others and do whatever he likes to do. Instead, we should work side by side helping each other to finish the job well.

Also, another point I value is enthusiasm. You see nothing great can be achieved without enthusiasm. I have a colleague, Mike, who not only works hard but also inspires other team-members whenever we feel low. So it is always a niceexperience working with him. And whole team sees him as our treasure.

After receiving some presents, several months later, some people choose to sell the gifts or give the gifts to others. Do you think it’s a good idea and why? Give specific explanation in your response.

Sample response:

Personally speaking, I don’t think it's a good idea. The main reason is this choice will lose the meaning of giving presents. When giving you a present, no matter it is for your birthday or for the Christmas or for the New year or something else, the present represents the wish, the care, the love to you given by your friends; such good blessing is priceless and worth remembering everlastingly. However, if selling them or giving them to others, it means you don't cherish them, the good blessing to you is gone, which will make people giving you presents heart-breaking or even annoyed.

Apart from getting relatively good jobs after graduation, what else benefits do you think can university students gain from university education? Give specific explanation in your response.

Sample response:

In my view, one benefit is about affection. Studying in universities, youngsters tend to be mature in mind, polite in behaviors, elegant in appearance, thus young boys and girls will be more likely to be attracted by each other’s magnetism, consequently, they may harvest a beloved one or even a spouse.

The other benefit I think is that they can get acquaintance with friends from a variety of industries. They may meet friends who are adept in computer science or skilled at biology research or rich in knowledge on laws and policies and so on. In daily lives, whenever meeting some troubles, asking for help will be easier

雷声大雨点小,英文叫做great/much cry and little wool(声多毛少)。

Great cry and little wool, as the Devil said when he sheared the hogs(正如魔鬼给猪剪毛的时候说,羊毛没有,叫声却响)。现在,人们往往把这句话略作much/great cry and little wool,例如:Our politicians repeatedly pledge to root out corruption, but it is always much cry and little wool(我们的政客常常指天誓日说要根除贪污,可是始终雷声大雨点小)。

Hey, don‘t touch that bike. It‘s my apple of love.

托福口语拓展:as dead as a dodo

as dead as a dodo

That hairstyle is as dead as a dodo now(那种发式早就没有人梳了)。

最后要指出的是:as dead as a dodo和 safe and sound一样,是个押头韵的成语。

The writing/Finger on the Wall

这个成语的字面意思是“墙上的文字(或手指)”,而实际含义是a sign or warning of impending disaster(迫在眉睫的凶兆);a sign that sth bad will happen; a feeling that ones number is up;等等。

英语中这个成语有几种表达方式:the writing /handwriting on the wall或a finger on the wall,通常与be,like等系动词连用;有时写成see/read the writing on he wall的句型,表示提出警告,such as :Don’t you see the writing on the wall, 有时候也可省略on the wall,只说Don’t you ee the writing?

alchemy

Max lost his shirt on that bank deal alchemy.

Old Mr.Wilson is lousy with money. He must have possessed some sort of alchemy.

Some smart ass came in here and offered to show us the alchemy for instant fortune.

apple of discord 祸根;争端

The use of the car was an apple of discord between Joe and his wife.

Talk about a book you read that was important to you for some reason. Explain why the book was important to you. Give specific details and examples to support your answer.

The story in the book was so interesting and appealing that once I began to read it, I couldn’t stop. /The book was so fun to read that I couldn’t help laughing every time I read it. It brought me a lot of happiness.

The story in the book was not only exciting but also inspiring. It taught me so much about the world we were living and showed me different ways people thought. /The story was meaningful and inspiring. It taught me to keep going and never give up, which is the most important lesson in life.

The book is beneficial to my academic learning. It provides much extra information on my major courses in addition to school textbooks.

To be honest, I met my girlfriend thanks to this book. We were sitting in the reading room next to each other and reading the same book! What a coincidence! Then we began to talk about how much we liked the writer and his books. Next thing you knew, she gave me her number!

Personally speaking, I think animals should be entitled to have the same right to pursue happiness and health as humans. The main reason is that this will enable our human beings to have a harmonious society. Animals, especially pets, no matterit is a dog or a cat, should also have the right to have healthy food to eat, clean water to drink, warm houses to live in and good environment to enjoy and so on. In this way, the animals will feel happy and our human beings will feel relieved. However, if animals don’t have such right, when animals are extremely hungry or thirsty, they may even bite or hurt people. Oh, nightmare!

Some people think historical sites ought to be open to the general public, while some people think historical sites should only be open to experts and researchers. Which opinion do you agree and why? Give specific explanation in your response.

Sample response:

I think historical sites should be open to the general public.

For one thing, this gives people the chance to learn historical and cultural knowledge. By visiting those sites, people can know what food people ate in the past, what tools they used when foraging, what was people’s life like in different empires, which is beneficial to both adults and children.

For another thing, this brings economic benefits. By opening to the general public, visitors will beat tracted and will pay ticket money for those sites, then those sites will have more money to do the maintenance and repairs, better protecting those historical relics.
