F Scott Fitzgerald's classic, complex novella of bad timing and lost love in the Jazz Age, The Great Gatsby has been brought once again to the cinema, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as the enigmatic young Gatsby himself. I saw it on TV one year ago.
It follows the life and times of millionaire Jay Gatsby and his neighbour Nick, who recounts his encounter with Gatsby at the height of the Roaring Twenties.
The plot is Gatsby’s funeral. Nick invites Daisy to Gatsby's funeral, only to learn that she, Tom, and their daughter are leaving New York. The funeral is attended only by reporters and photographers, whom Nick angrily chases out. Nick realizes that he is the only person who actually cared about Gatsby. Disgusted with both the city and its people, he leaves New York, but not before taking a final walk through Gatsby's deserted mansion; reflecting on Gatsby's unique ability to hope, and how he lost everything. Back in the sanatorium, Nick finishes his memoir and titles it “Gatsby,” then takes out a pen to re-title it, “The Great Gatsby.”
Its style fascinates. It creates vivid 1920s backdrops behind all this: faintly preposterous and yet undeniably lively: all-singing, all-dancing, and Jay-Z's music is audacious and exhilarating. There is colourised black-and-white footage and depthless digital panoramas of New York; there are hyper-real street scenes through which Gatsby roars in his sports car. And of course there are plenty of those headache-inducing camera zooms.

My friend and I got a blast last month when we saw the 3-D Max movie called Transformers: Dark of the Moon which is an American science fiction-action film directed by Michael Bay. In this cast, Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, and John Turturro reprised their roles but English model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley replaced Megan Fox as the lead female character.
The film's story structure revolves around a genuine NASA manned mission to the Moon. Three years after the events of the second film and 42 years after the Apollo 11 space race, the Autobots continue to work for the NEST military force. Meanwhile, the Decepticons unveil a plan to use the new groundbreaking technology, the Pillars, to enslave Humanity in order to save the home planet of the Transformers, Cybertron.
First of all, I don't think the image of a truck transforming into a twenty-foot tall robot has never captured on screen, but now it became true, and I think a bunch of people are rocked because of this. Moreover, the film is marvelous with its spectacular visual effect and 3-D action sequences. Those special effects are the best 3-D experience since Avatar in my perspective.

There is a foreign food that I would really like to try, but I wonder if my choice will surprise you? I will tell you what it is, how I learned about it, where it is mostly eaten and explain why I want to taste it so badly.
The food is…. Pizza! Now, of course, this is a food that you can buy all over the world, and I really enjoy the pizza that I can buy in my home country which is England in the UK. However, I recently learned from a friend that the style of pizza available here is nothing like the authentic Italian pizza you can get if you visit its country of origin, and since then, it’s one of the things on my bucket list. That is, something I’d like to do before I die is to travel to Italy, find a local pizzeria and get a really authentic pizza.
So how did I learn what I’ve been missing? I shop regularly at a local family owned delicatessen. The proprietor is Italian, and he is a great foody – that is he takes food very seriously, sourcing only the best ingredients. He and his wife are both vegetarian like me, so they often suggest food or recipes. The other day we were talking and he was bemoaning the lack of ‘proper’ pizzas in this country. He told me that whilst of course, Italian food is very regional including its pizzas, they are nevertheless distinctive. All pizzas MUST be cooked in a wood-fired oven for a start, the dough should be tossed by hand. The pizza should only be made with the very freshest and finest ingredients, and is best eaten outdoors too, of course, against the backdrop of the Italian countryside!
Pizza is eaten everywhere in Italy, though of course approximations of pizza can be bought the world over. Even so, my deli friend has persuaded me I’ve been missing out, and I’d like to find out for myself how different it might taste if I go for an authentic recipe, venue and location. I’ve never had a real pizza, and I’ve never been to Italy either, I think it would be a winning combination – not to mention that it would also be a great excuse to go to a beautiful country that I have yet to visit. The food is quite simple that that I like to have as a special treat from time to time. I’ve always thought of it as a Greek speciality, although others tell me it actually originates from Egypt. Can you guess what it is? Houmous. I love it.
Basically, it is made from cooked, mashed chickpeas blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic. It is popular throughout the Middle East (including Turkey), North Africa (including Morocco), and in Middle Eastern cuisine around the globe, but it is also extremely popular with me, although I’m very particular about the sort I buy. I live near a wonderful delicatessen, it is run by a friendly couple, he is Italian and she is vintage Yorkshire. They make their own houmous with only the finest quality virgin olive oil and huge quantities of the best fresh garlic they can get hold of. It’s pretty expensive, but I love it, and it’s better than my own attempts for some reason, I don’t know why it shouldn’t be so hard to make.
Why do I like it? I think it is partly the texture, and partly the taste, I love garlic. Also, because I’m vegetarian it is a very healthy food, with lots of protein and quality fats that are good for you. Of course, you can have too much of a good thing, but I think it’s well worth it.
It is my favourite food not only because it is absolutely delicious, but also because you can share it with other people. It is best eaten as a dip, with friends. I cut up lots of carrots, cucumber and celery into crudités carefully sliced to make a colourful dish, perhaps with some slices of warm pitta bread too. A nice bottle of white wine helps. We can then all sit together enjoying the fresh humous dip, sipping our glasses of wine and laughing and talking to put the world to rights. It is a great way to enjoy a fabulous food.
