在美国消费水平比较低，衣物，食物都比较便宜，所以刚来美国不必要把锅碗瓢盆和一大堆换洗衣物都带来，所有的日用品消费品都可以在超市方便地买到，想要吃中国的食物也会有很多99大华类的中国超市，油盐酱醋应有尽有。如果出行比较多可以考虑买辆二手车，大概在3000到7000美金不等。考驾照也比较方便，只需要付几十美金，考一个笔试，一个路考，也不用上驾校。在美国，驾照就相当于身份证，所以有时间有精力的同学可以考一下。

学校的社团活动也多姿多彩，女生社，男生社，滑雪社，攀岩社等等，还有非常有意思的安全护送社，因为美国的学校都是开放式的，学生居住地也比较分散，学生经常在图书馆学习到深夜十二点，为防止晚上突发暴力事件，安全护送社的成员会在图书馆门前等候为需要帮助的学生提供免费安全护送服务。
来到这所学校，让我感触最深的一点就是处处都体现着人性化。所有的基础设施都有专门为残疾人提供的方便服务，墙壁上有自动按钮，还有专门为轮椅上下坡提供的之字形通道，残疾人坐轮椅也可以自由出入各个大楼。停车场都有为残疾人在最便利的地方设置的专用停车位，包括公交车也都有为残疾人轮椅自由上下提供的专门服务。
在路上经常会有迎面走过来的人对你微笑着说早上好，这里的人都很友善，就算不相识的人也会热情地跟你打招呼。有时候自己需要问路或是咨询，他们都会很耐心地去讲解，每个人都很真诚地为你提供帮助。

面临的似乎是一个又一个严峻的考验。我的导师曾说过类似的话：制定研究方向是他的责任，做实验是我的责任。设计什么样的实验是我们共同的责任，但主要是他的责任;对实验结果的分析和总结主要是我的责任。这对初到实验室的我是一个不小的挑战。
我的研究工作主要是对Ⅱ型糖尿病中的发病机制进行分子水平的研究，研究重点围绕细胞线粒体调控机制中的重要基因心磷脂酰基转移酶1与活性氧的应激反应和线粒体的功能失活的相互联系。无论从研究的背景还是从涉及的试验来说，我都需要不断熟悉。阅读相关文献报道自然就成了我每天的必修课。同时，试验也是要进行的，分子克隆手册就是我的指导老师，商品试剂盒内附带的说明就是我的第二指导老师，整个生理系和公共的实验设备及应用软件都可以为我所用，总之实验资源自己整合，实验条件自己摸索。还好，我们实验室当时就有一个中国女孩，在我一片茫然焦头烂额之时雪中送炭帮了我不少，我至今非常感谢她。
