Education

Education

Education is one of the key words of our time. A man without an education, many of us believe, is an unfortunate victim of adverse circumstances, deprived of one of the greatest twentieth-century opportunities. Convinced of the importance of education, modern states ‘invest’ in institutions of learning to get back ‘interest’ in the form of a large group of enlightened young men and women who are potential leaders. Education, with its cycles of instruction so carefully worked out, punctuated by text-books----those purchasable wells of wisdom----what would civilization be like without its benefits?

So much is certain: that we would have doctors and preachers, lawyers and defendants, marriages and births---but our spiritual outlook would be different. We would lay less stress on ‘facts and figures’ and more on a good memory, on applied psychology, and on the capacity of a man to get along with his fellow-citizens. If our educational system were fashioned after its bookless past we would have the most democratic form of ‘college’ imaginable. Among tribal people all knowledge inherited by tradition is shared by all; it is taught to every member of the tribe so that in this respect everybody is equally equipped for life.

It is the ideal condition of the ‘equal start’ which only our most progressive forms of modern education try to regain. In primitive cultures the obligation to seek and to receive the traditional instruction is binding to all. There are no ‘illiterates’----if the term can be applied to peoples without a ----while our own compulsory school attendance became law in Germany in 1642, in France in 1806, and in England in 1876, and is still non-existent in a number of ‘civilized’ nations. This shows how long it was before we deemed it necessary to make sure that all our children could share in the knowledge accumulated by the ‘happy few’ during the past centuries.

Education in the wilderness is not a matter of monetary means. All are entitled to an equal start. There is none of the hurry which, in our society, often hampers the full development of a growing personality. There, a child grows up under the ever-present attention of his parents; therefore the jungles and the savannahs know of no ‘juvenile delinquency’. No necessity of making a living away from home results in neglect of children, and no father is confronted with his inability to ‘buy’ an education for his child.

Adolescence

Adolescence

Parents are often upset when their children praise the homes of their friends and regard it as a slur on their own cooking, or cleaning, or furniture, and often are foolish enough to let the adolescents see that they are annoyed. They may even accuse them of disloyalty, or make some spiteful remark about the friends' parents. Such a loss of dignity and descent into childish behavior on the part of the adults deeply shocks the adolescents, and makes them resolve that in future they will not talk to their parents about the places or people they visit. Before very long the parents will be complaining that the child is so secretive and never tells them anything, but they seldom realize that they have brought this on themselves.

Disillusionment with the parents, however good and adequate they may be both as parents and as individuals, is to some degree inevitable. Most children have such a high ideal of their parents, unless the parents themselves have been unsatisfactory, that it can hardly hope to stand up to a realistic evaluation. Parents would be greatly surprised and deeply touched if they realized how much belief their children usually have in their character and infallibility, and how much this faith means to a child. If parents were prepared for this adolescent reaction, and realized that it was a sign that the child was growing up and developing valuable powers of observation and independent judgment, they would not be so hurt, and therefore would not drive the child into opposition by resenting and resisting it.

The adolescent, with his passion for sincerity, always respects a parent who admits that he is wrong, or ignorant, or even that he has been unfair or unjust. What the child cannot forgive is the parents' refusal to admit these charges if the child knows them to be true.

Victorian parents believed that they kept their dignity by retreating behind an unreasoning authoritarian attitude; in fact they did nothing of the kind, but children were then too cowed to let them know how they really felt. Today we tend to go to the other extreme, but on the whole this is a healthier attitude both for the child and the parent. It is always wiser and safer to face up to reality, however painful it may be at the moment.

The sporting spirit

The sporting spirit

I am always amazed when I hear people saying that sport creates goodwill between the nations, and that if only the common peoples of the world could meet one another at football or cricket, they would have no inclination to meet on the battlefield.Even if one didn't know from concrete examples (the 1936 Olympic Games, for instance) that international sporting contests lead to orgies of hatred, one could deduce it from general principles.

Nearly all the sports practiced nowadays are competitive. You play to win, and the game has little meaning unless you do your utmost to win.On the village green, where you pick up sides and no feeling of local patriotism is involved, it is possible to play simply for the fun and exercise: but as soon as the question of prestige arises, as soon as you feel that you and some larger unit will be disgraced if you lose, the most savage combative instincts are aroused.Anyone who has played even in a school football match knows this.At the international level, sport is frankly mimic warfare. But the significant thing is not the behavior of the players but the attitude of the spectators: and, behind the spectators, of the nations who work themselves into furies over these absurd contests, and seriously believe --- at any rate for short periods --- that running, jumping and kicking a ball are tests of national virtue.

Spare that spider

Spare that spider

Why, you may wonder, should spiders be our friends? Because they destroy so many insects, and insects include some of the greatest enemies of the human race.Insects would make it impossible for us to live in the world; they would devour all our crops and kill our flocks and herds, if it were not for the protection we get from insect-eating animals. We owe a lot to the birds and beasts who eat insects but all of them put together kill only a fraction of the number destroyed by spiders. Moreover, unlike some of the other insect eaters, spiders never do the least harm to us or our belongings.

Spiders are not insects, as many people think, nor even nearly related to them. One can tell the difference almost at a glance, for a spider always has eight legs and an insect never more than six.

How many spiders are engaged in this work on our behalf? One authority on spiders made a census of the spiders in a grass field in the south of England, and he estimated that there were more than 2,250,000 in one acre; that is something like 6,000,000 spiders of different kinds on a football pitch.Spiders are busy for at least half the year in killing insects. It is impossible to make more than the wildest guess at how many they kill, but they are hungry creatures, not content with only three meals a day.It has been estimated that the weight of all the insects destroyed by spiders in Britain in one year would be greater than the total weight of all the human beings in the country.

Education

Education is not an end, but a means to an end. In other words, we do not educate children only for educating them. Our purpose is to fit them for life.

In some modern countries it has been fashionable to think that free education for all can solve all the problems of society and build a perfect nation. But we can already see that free education for all is not enough. We find in such countries a far larger number of people with university degrees refusing to do what they think islowwork, and, in fact, working with ones hands is thought to be dirty and shameful in such countries. But we have only to think a moment to understand that the work of a completely uneducated farmer is far more important than that of a professor; we can live without education, but we die if we have no food. If no one cleaned our streets and took the rubbish away from our houses, we should get terrible diseases in our towns.

In fact, when we say that all of us must be educated to fit us for life, it means that we must be educated in such a way that, firstly, each of us can do whatever work is suited to his brains and ability and, secondly, that we can realize that all jobs are necessary to society, and that it is very bad to be ashamed of ones work. Only such a type of education can be considered valuable to society.

Education Today

There is the feeing that education today should be practical as well as theoretical. For this reason, there are many courses which teach a student how to do things: how to make a dress, how to prepare a meal, how to use a computer or a calculator, how to draw plans for a house. Even in the more theoretical courses the teachers are constantly training their students to look for the practical applications of what they are learning.

Important Education

“don’t tell any lies to others, and if you do that, you will harm yourself and the people who belive on you”, my mother told me when I was very young.

Children often try to tell lies to someone because they don’t know what it means. The same thing had happened to me too. My mother found the problem and tried her best to solve it. Luckily, I found what a serious problem it is and changed it.

Just like this story, the most important education of me, does not come form school but form my mum. She lets me know what a man should do or should not do.

“I’ll buy any books you want, but you have to read them all.” My mother promised me.

Just like what she said, she bought many books to me, including comic books, scientist-know-ledge books, story books and many other kinds of books.

When I was young, my mum always read a story to me before sleeping. For example, The complete words of Shakespeare. I can’t understand it very well, but find interested in it. I have read a lot of books since then, and now I have realized how useful they can do. Books help me know more and think deeply. For all of this, I’m very grateful of my mum.

Recently, I passed my 16 birthday. I know l have to face to more responsibility. When I turned to review the way I grow up, I found what an important role my mum played in my education. Good parents are much better than a perfect school. It is ture.

Thank you, mum.

范文:

When the issue of poisonous milk powder gains an overwhelming focus from the public, what are these malefactors doing? As we can see from the depiction, enterprise, milk station, milk cow and even grass are trying to find someone scapegoating for this credit crisis, in my view point, that’s nothing to do with the credit but the problem of responsibility.

Responsibility is a keyword that we should never disregard, defined not only as the courage to face every foreseeable risk, but as the braveness to entail every malpractice when it really takes place as well. The causes of the shortage of responsibility or even conscience may be as follows. Firstly, inner cause ascribing probably to the destructive influence emanating from the decay of morality may result in the over-materialism .Furthermore, outerly ,deficient supervisal gives rise to the fearless adventurer who is at the risk of anything ,not to say to deviate from his own liability ,to pursue as many as profits. A case in point is the Melamine-laced Milk Incident which almost destroyed the whole of China’s milk industry.

It is imperative that drastic measures should be taken to end this thorny situation, such as enacting related law to reinforce our supervisal mechanism to avoid the behavior of kicking the ball when something bad happen and promoting social entities to regain one of Chinese traditional virtues, which is called “who would enter the hell if I wouldn’t”, that means, undoubtedly, to learn to be responsible for the blunder means sensible Unflinchingness.

The illustration depicts four hands holding together in the center of the map of china, with “United as the Great Wall, making anything rather small” on the both sides of the picture. Recently, people from all walks of life concern the victims in the Wenchuan Earthquake.

It is conspicuously indicated that love combined all the Chinese together and assist the Wenchuan victims to overcome the difficulties. We are the brothers and exert our efforts to rebuild the homelands of the Wenchuan victims.

In a increasingly harmonious society, the phenomenon to show love is sufficient. A family or a single person in disasters can not accomplish the task without the help of the others. It is the love based on complementary advantages that will contribute to ultimate success of a person or a organization. Numerous examples can demonstrate the power of the love. In the Wenchuan Earthquake, people from all over the world collect the fund for them to fly over the dilemmas. Were there no love, we will can not witness a harmonious society in all round way.

Students’ graduation intent

Students’ graduation intentions

From the table chart given above, we can observe that it reflects the statistics of students’ graduation intention. From to , the proportion of students who are determined to further study increased rapidly from 45% to 76%. During the same period, the percentage of students who are willing to work after graduation remains steady.

The table chart informs us of the phenomenon that students in increasing numbers are willing to further study after graduation. What exactly contribute to this phenomenon? Reason can be listed as follows: for one thing, facing with intense competition in the employment market, quite a few students regard further study as a buffer. moreover, they are convinced that a higher education will put them in a competitive position in the future employment market. their decision could also be attributed to the power of so-called “group dynamics”: when their friends and classmates choose to study after graduation, they will be influenced easily and imitate others’ behaviors.

By observing the tendency of the past, we may forecast that the proportion of further study will continue to rise. However, students should bear in mind that a higher education will not guarantee them an ideal job. It is capabilities and skills that determine their future. (206words)

Some people think that university should not provide theoretical knowledge, but to give practical training benefit to society. Do you agree or disagree? Use your own experience and knowledge to support your idea.

Nowhere in the world has the issue of student been so much debated as in our society. In this competitive society, ability of work and employment experience have become very important features of ordinary students' future; therefore, many people think that university should teach students the real knowledge that comes from practice and direct experience. The above point is certainly wrong; this essay will outline three reasons.

The main reason is that students' study will be delayed and disadvantaged. The academic knowledge of students will be hard to make greater progress in order to practical training and employment experience. In this special period of life, students have the best memory and intellect. If they do not work hard at study, they will lose it that could be balanced by neither good employment experience nor information of outside classroom. If students choose to carefully study academic knowledge in the university, they would gain a better future.

Another reason is that current knowledge of students is not enough capable to face practical training's requirements. If students are not taught professional theoretical knowledge, they just depend on the basal academic knowledge that they studied in the high school. In fact, they are really difficult to progress real practical training and gain abundant employment experience.

Last but not the least reason is the professional theoretical knowledge that it is necessary to work of future. For instance, when I graduated from university, I did not have any employment experience. But, I was hired a famous network company. I could gain this work chance, only, because of my professional theoretical knowledge.

In conclusion, the students ought to only study theoretical knowledge in the university. It is unnecessary to let university that provides plenty of practical training.

Is School Education Enough?

Is School Education Enough?

We go to school for education. We learn Maths, English,Chinese, Physics and other subjects. School education is necessary and important. However, no one can learn everything from school. Even a very good teacher can not tell his students everything they want to know.

Edison didn't have much schooling, but he became a famous scientist. It doesn't mean that school education is not important. He knew how to learn new things by himself. As a matter of fact, many things can be learned outside school by the students themselves.

So we should learn how to learn at school.

The 21st century is a full of competitive information age, computer enables people to study and communication become more rich and colorful, make knowledge more convenient.

Once the teacher asked me to look up the information a historical figure, I read many books, but didn't find the information to, really worried. But later the Internet, not for a while, then find the information. This information can be found, thanks to the Internet!

The last time I saw on TV, there is a village of dozens of rural development resources, planting several acres of green vegetables, but no one has to order out. A learning computer, help them to think of a way to surf the Internet to find customers. All of a sudden, a lot of clients under the order on the Internet. A few days later, the piles of vegetables are sold out. These vegetables are placed in the fate of the rot in the home was changed by a small computer, what a miracle!

Education

Education

Throughout the millennia, students of all ages in China have had to endure the miseries of learning by rote. Teachers have stifled creativity in the pursuit of the accumulation of facts, and parents have forced children to spend mind-numbing hours cramming for exams. But for the past year, the government has been experimenting with what could amount to revolutionary changes in China's classrooms. The aim is to make education more pleasant, more useful and, above all, to challenge students to think for themselves.

What has prompted the reforms is a belated recognition that China's education system is failing to produce enough innovative thinkers. In addition, students are deeply unhappy. A survey conducted by the Education Ministry five years ago found more than 80% of students disliked school. Dropout rates have been rising in rural areas—partly for economic reasons but also because of the stultifying atmosphere of their classrooms. Exam pressures frequently lead to suicides. According to a survey last year among senior secondary-school students and university freshmen in one area, more than 50% had considered killing themselves.

Several other countries in East Asia, including Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, are grappling with similar problems. But the implications of China's reform efforts are particularly profound. China's traditional education methods are ideally suited to a political culture that requires citizens to submit blindly to authority. By encouraging students to question their teachers and regard them as equals (even official literature now talks of fostering a “democratic” atmosphere in classrooms), China could be ushering in a new kind of relationship between the rulers and the ruled.

The problem is making it work. The government has set ambitious targets with few resources to ensure that the country's more than 10m primary- and secondary-school teachers acquire the skills and determination to change the habits of a lifetime. The reforms started in September with about 420,000 primary- and junior secondary-school students (out of a national total of more than 215m) taking part in 38 experimental zones around the country. In September this year, participation increased to 9.1m pupils in 572 zones. These figures will double next year. The Education Ministry's original idea had been to implement the reforms nationwide by . But according to Liu Jian of the ministry's National Centre for School Curriculum and Textbook Development, employers from a variety of enterprises said they wanted a quicker timetable. So now the target is . In , similar experiments will start in secondary schools.

Online Education

Being online is no longer something strange in our life. To some degree, it has become part of our daily life. We can do a lot of things online, such as searching for information and communicating with friends far and near. But recently another helpful online activity has become very “in”. That is online education.

Why could online education be so popular within such a short period of time? Among other reasons, the quick development of the internet should be an essential one, which makes all our dreams of attending class in the distance possible. Another underlying reason is the quick development of both society and technology. Today, modern science and technology is developing with lightening speed. To catch up with this development we all feel an urgent and strong desire to study. However, due to the great pace of modern society, many people are too busy to study full time at school. Online education just comes to their aid.

Personally, I appreciate this new form of education. It's indeed a helpful complement to the traditional educational means. It can provide different learners with more flexible and versatile ways of learning. Most of all, with online education, we can sick to our jobs and at the same time study and absorb the latest knowledge.

Remote Education

Apprently, the vivid picture given above portrayed that a teacher and her student are praising the convenience of remote education. When it comes to the choice between studying in traditional colleges and self-studying through Internet, recently more people choose to receive remote education.

In the eyes of those people studying through Internet, remote education has its own advantages which are beneficial to their study. In the first place, studying through Internet is more efficient and flexible because learners will not be bound up in the classroom at the required time. In the second place, they can listen to the lessons from the famous teachers who are uneasy to contact at campus.

But remote education is still far from perfection. On one hand, staying before computers too long will make students neglect the importance of communication. On the other hand, different from the traditional teaching methods, students find it more difficult to get feedback from their teachers on time.

In my opinion the remote education represents the trend of educational development and the most effective way to realize the popularity and justice of educational resource. Of course, presently it is only a complement to the traditional education.
