全国英语演讲比赛演讲稿:A Passion to Win in the Competition
Thirty college students across the country attended the Tenth 21st Century Cup National English Speaking Contest in Beijing on April 10. Eventually, Xia Peng, from Nanjing University was named the champion. The second and third places went to Zhang Jing, a sophomore from China Foreign Affairs University, and Zhang A Xu, from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, respectively. More than 1000 college students in Beijing are lucky birds to listen to the speeches on the spot in Friendship Hotel.
Just make to it the finals, they had to get past 60 others speaking on “The impact of globalization on traditional Chinese values”. That was at the semi-final on April 8-9. What will Chinese college students think about the impact? Each contestant had his own take on the subject. Xia summed up globalization by saying: “It’s just controversial and hard to say whether it is good or bad.” Xia took the old wall of his city, Nanjing, as a metaphor. He suggested that people protect the wall as a valuable relic while tearing down the “intangible walls” of their minds that prevent communication. While some other students are more focusing on the impact of globalization on family relations, attitudes towards love, and job-hunting.
Over the past 10 years, the national English speaking competition has given contestants a chance to speak on a variety of topics closely related to their lives. Chinese students become more open-minded and receive various ideas and thinking over the decade. Diversity becomes more obvious on campus, students have more opportunities to express and show themselves. It’s not an easy task for the contestants to win through the fierce competition. Owning to their passion, hard work and persistence, they finally succeeded in the contest.
Liu Xin, the first champion of the national contest, is now an anchorperson of CCTV-9. Recalling the passion of study on campus, she said: “When you want to express your idea by a foreign language without finding a right way, you’re really upset. Then you have to encourage yourself, and after a long term of bitterness, suddenly you find you get the right way with joy.” With the champion title in 21st Century Cup, Liu attended the International Public Speaking competition in London in May afterward and got the first prize historically.
The winner in surprised the audience, since she came from accounting major instead of English major. Gu Qiubei, then 22 years old, was a senior in Shanghai Foreign Studies University. While being asked whether she had some good methods to learn English, she sa
id: “Learn English with passion and enthusiasm.” Attracted by the greatness of English language, Gu even changed her major from accounting to English in her postgraduate study. The most important issue in English learning process she pointed out is personal interests. Only people interested in English benefit a lot from the learning methods and those with passion will finally achieve their dreams.
When chief of global media giant Viacom Sumner Redstone gave a speech in Tsinghua University on his autobiography A Passion to Win, he was asked what made him to restart his career at the age of 60, the 81-year-old media tycoon said: “Firstly, there’s a self-driving force in my deep heart, which keeps my passion to succeed and surpass others; secondly, I don’t think I’m too old to leave work, actually I love my work very much.”
Some of the contestants have achieved their dreams as Redstone; still others are on the way to their dream. With a passion to win, you will overcome obstacles and succeed at the end.

Building Bridges for the Future
I’m studying in a city that’s famous for its walls. People who visit my city are amazed at the imposing sight of its walls, especially when silhouetted against the setting sun with gold, shining streaks. The old, cracked bricks are covered with lichens and the walls are weather-beaten guards standing still for centuries.
Our ancestors liked to build walls. They built walls in Beijing, Xi’an, Nanjing and many other cities, and they built the Great Wall, which snakes across half our country. They built walls to protect against enemies and evil spirits. This tradition has survived to this day: we still have many parks and schools walled off from the public.
For a long time, walls were one of the most natural things in the world to me.
My perceptions, however, changed after I made a hiking trip to the eastern suburbs of my city. My classmates and I were walking with some foreign students. As we walked out of the city, we found ourselves flanked by tall trees, which formed a wide canopy above our heads. Suddenly one foreign student asked me, “Where is the entrance to the eastern suburbs?”
“We’re already in the eastern suburbs,” I replied. He seemed taken aback, “I thought you Chinese had walls for everything.” His remark set off a heated debate. At one point, he likened our walled cities to “jails”, while I insisted that the eastern suburbs were one of the many places in China that had no walls.
That debate had no winners, but I did learn a lot from this student. For instance, he told me that some major universities like Oxford and Cambridge were not surrounded by walls. I have to admit that we do have many walls in China, and as we develop our country,
we must look carefully at them and decide whether they are physical or intangible. We will keep some walls but tear down those that impede our development.
Let me give another example.
A year ago, when I was working on a term paper, I needed a book on business law and found a copy in the law school library. However, the librarian coldly rejected my request to borrow it, saying, “You can’t borrow this book, you’re not a student here.” In the end, I had to spend 200 yuan to buy a copy. Meanwhile, the copy in the law school gathered dust on the shelf.
At the beginning of this semester, I heard that my university had started to think of unifying its libraries and linking them to libraries at other universities, so my experience wouldn’t be repeated. Barriers would be replaced by bridges. An inter-library loan system would give us access to books from any library. With globalization and China integrated into the world, I believe many of these intangible walls will be knocked down.
I know that globalization is a controversial issue, and it is hard to say whether it is good or bad. But one thing is for sure: it draws our attention to China’s tangible and intangible walls and forces us to examine their role in the modern world.
And how about the ancient walls of mine and other cities? Should we tear them down? Definitely not. My city, like Beijing and other cities, is actually making a great effort to preserve the walls. These walls attract historians, archaeologists, and many schoolchildren who are trying to study our history and cultural heritage. Walls have become bridges to our past and to the rest of the world. If the ancient builders of these walls were still alive today, they would be proud to see such great changes in the role of their walls. They are now bridges that link East and West, South and North, and all countries of the world. Our cultural heritage will survive globalization.

There was once a physical 1） therapist who traveled all the way from America to Africa to do a 2） census about mountain 3） gorillas. These gorillas are a main attraction to tourists from all over the world; this put them severely under threat of 4） poaching and being put into the zoo. She went there out of curiosity, but what she saw strengthened her determination to devote her whole life to fighting for those beautiful creatures. She witnessed a scene, a scene taking us to a place we never imaged we've ever been, where in the very depth of the African rainforest, surrounded by trees, flowers and butterflies, the mother gorillas 5） cuddled their babies.
Yes, that's a memorable scene in one of my favorite movies, called Gorillas in the Mist, based on a true story of Mrs. Dian Fossey, who spent most of bet lifetime in Rwanda to protect the ecoenvironment there until the very end of her life.
To me, the movie not only presents an unforgettable scene but also acts as a 6） timeless reminder that we should not develop the tourist industry at the cost of our ecoenvironment.
Today, we live in a world of prosperity but still threatened by so many new problems. On the one hand, tourism, as one of the most promising industries in the 21st century, provides people with the great opportunity to see everything there is to see and to go any place there is to go. It has become a lifestyle for some people, and has turned out to be the driving force in GDP growth. It has the magic to turn a backward town into a wonderland of prosperity. But on the other hand, many problems can occur---natural scenes aren't natural anymore. Deforestation to heat lodges is devastating Nepal. Oil spills from tourist boats are polluting Antarctica. Tribal people are forsaking their native music and dress to listen to U2 on Walkman and wear Nike and Reeboks.
All these 7） appalling（令人震惊的） facts have brought us to the realization that we can no longer stand by and do nothing, because the very thought of it has been 8） eroding（侵蚀） our resources. Encouragingly, the explosive growth of global travel has put tourism again in the spotlight, which is why the United Nations has made the year of ecotourism, for the first time to bring to the world's attention the benefits of tourism, but also its capacity to destroy our ecoenvironment.
Now every year, many local ecoenvironmental protection organizations an: receiving donations--big notes, small notes or even coins--from housewives, 9） plumbers（水管工人）， ambulance drivers, salesmen, teachers, children and 10） invalids（残疾人）， Some of them can not afford to send the money but they do. These are the ones who drive the cabs, who nurse in hospitals, who are suffering from ecological damage in their neighborhood. Why? Because they care. Because they still want their Mother Nature back. Because they know it still belongs to them.
This kind of feeling that I have, ladies and gentlemen, is when it feels like it, smells like it, and looks like it, it's all coming from a scene to remember, a scene to recall and to cherish.
The other night, as l saw the moon linger over the land and before it was sent into the invisible, my mind was filled with songs. I found myself humming softly, not to the music, but to some- thing else, someplace else. a place remembered, a place untouched, a field of grass where no one seem to have been except the deer.
And all those unforgettable scenes strengthened the feeling that it's lime for us to do something, for our own and our coming generation.
Once again, I have come to think of Mrs. Dian Fossey be- cause it's with her spirit, passion, courage and strong sense of our ecoenvironment that we are taking our next step into the world.
And no matter who we are, what we do and where we go, in our mind, there's always a scene to remember, a scene worth our effort to protect it and fight for it.

Different people have different pains from different places. We are now students, so I think we have pains mainly from studies.
Time files. Two months ago, I came to a middle school student.But I have a pain. Homework is my growing pain. In the secondary school, we have more subjects to study. And homework is more than primary school.So I could’t adapt to the secondary school’s homework. I don’t have other time to do any sports or read any books.

He was starring at her coldly, but she managed to smile and ask politely“May I help you sir?” “Get out of the seat!” the man snarledback. “Excuse me?” Rosa was shocked.
What right did the man have to speak to her in such a cruel tone? Just because her skin was dark colored and his was fair. And as equals, he certainly didn't have any right to order her out of the seat, or did he? Well, surprisingly, in 1955, lots like Rosa Parks did not have as many rights as whites. Due to racial discrimination, Rosa’s refusal to give up her seat to a white man, led to a call to the police, and she was arrested jailed and
convictea violatinsegregatiolaws. But Rosa did not surrender to prejudice, instead she chose to fight discrimination and work alongside thousands of others for her wish to rid the world of racism
And now, half a centurlater, we are still fighting for the same wish. Traces of discrimination have gradually disappeared, but prejudice lives on. I too, share the wish of Rosa Parks, but I too, wish that prejudice comes to an end. And my friends, prejudice will come to an end if we all work together as a whole.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s my honor to be here today to give you this speech.
When I learned the topic of our speech, a remark made by Steve Jobs, the Chief Executive of Apple Company occurred to my mind. The remark is “we believe that people with passion can change the world for the better.” And it is this competition that lets me think about the role passion has played throughout our lives and what passion means to the world. Yes, I believe people with passion can change the world!
Lost in my mind, I see the passion from Martin Luther King has finally helped them win the racial discrimination struggle. The passion led them out of dark. And Van Gogh, a talented yet unfortunate painter, strikes people all over the world with sadness, sympathy and hope expressed uniquely in his works, and more importantly, his great passion about his career and life. Moreover, I see, American president Barack Obama awoke his people’s hope by his passionate speech and attitude, lighting the road during the financial crisis. It is his words “Yes, we can!” that shows the whole world his passion and inspired his whole country. They did have changed the world by their passion!
Passion is in all of us, and undeniably part of who we are. Passion then, if one can find it within themselves as well as within the world around them, can offer the meaning that so many people feel is lacking in their lives.
I’m a rather shy person by nature who easily suffers from stage fright. In fact, I could have stayed away and had an easy time. But my passion for life made me accept the challenge. Now here I am. Even if my performance isn’t very good, I will not call my attempt a failure. Instead, I’ll celebrate it as a true success. Because part of my goal is my own character training-to do more assertive, to be brave in face of difficulties. Every try is a meaningful step forward, small as it is, in the long journey toward the final success in my life.
Passion has changed me. As long as it can change a person, it will change the world, since everyone makes a difference.
Passion is the fire in your heart. You, my friend, also has this passion within you. It “whispers” to you occasionally, but in some cases it cries out. It cries out to be listened to and acted upon.
Find your inner fire, and live that passion daily. You will be changed, everyone will be changed, I believe, then, the whole world will be changed!

You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something: your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road, will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it lead you off the well worn path. And that will make all the difference.
Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. You’ve got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers.Your work is going to fill a large part of your life and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking, and don’t settle. Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they somehow already know what you truly want to become.

g to have some ups and you’re goning to have some downs. Most people give up on themselves easily. You know the human spirit is powerful! There is nothing as powerful. It’s hard to kill the human spirit! Anybody can feel good when they have their health, their bills are paid, they have happy relationships. Anybody can be positive then, anybody can have a larger vision then, anybody can have faith under those kinds of circumstances. The real challenge of growth, mentally, emotionally and spiritually comes when you get knocked down. It takes courage to act. Part of being hungry when you been defeated. It takes courage to start over again. Fear kills dreams. Fear kills hope. Fear, put people in the hospital. Fear can age you, can hold you back from doing something that you know within yourself that you are capable of doing, but it will paralyze you. At the end of your feelings is nothing, but at the end of every principle is a promise. Behind your little feelings, it might not be absolutely not at the end of your little feelings. But behind every principle is a promise. And some of you in your life, the reason why you not at your goal right now, because of your just all about you feelings. All on your feelings, you don’t feel like waking up, so who doesEveryday you say “no” to your dreams, you might be pushing your dreams back a whole six months, a whole year! That one single day, that one day you didn’t get up could have pushed your stuff back, I don’t know how long.
Don’t allow your emotions to control you. We are emotional, but what you want to begin to discipline your emotion. If you don’t discipline and contain your emotion, they will use you. You want it, and you are going to go all out to have it. It’s not going to be easy, when you want to change. It’s not easy. If it were in fact easy, everybody would do it. But if you’re serious, you’ll go all out.
I’m in control here. I’m not going to let this get me down; I’m not going to let this destroy me. I’m coming back! And I’ll be stronger and better because of it! You have got to make a declaration, that this is what you stand for! You’re standing up for your dreams; you’re standing up for peace of mind, you standing up for health. Take full responsibility for your life! Accept where you are and the responsibility that you’re going to take yourself where you want to go.You can decide that I am going to live each day as if it were my last! Live your life with passion! With some drive! Decided that your change to push yourself. The last chapter to your life has not been written yet, and it doesn’t matter about what happened yesterday. It doesn’t matter about what happened to you, what matter is: what are you going to do about it
This year I would make before this goal become a real. I won’t talk about it anymore. I can, I can, I can!

These gorillas are a main attraction to tourists from all over the world; this put them severely under threat of 4) poaching and being put into the zoo. She went there out of curiosity, but what she saw strengthened her determination to devote her whole life to fighting for those beautiful creatures. She witnessed a scene, a scene taking us to a place we never imaged we've ever been, where in the very depth of the African rainforest, surrounded by trees, flowers and butterflies, the mother gorillas 5) cuddled their babies.
Yes, that's a memorable scene in one of my favorite movies, called Gorillas in the Mist, based on a true story of Mrs. Dian Fossey, who spent most of bet lifetime in Rwanda to protect the ecoenvironment there until the very end of her life.
To me, the movie not only presents an unforgettable scene but also acts as a 6) timeless reminder that we should not develop the tourist industry at the cost of our ecoenvironment.
Today, we live in a world of prosperity but still threatened by so many new problems. On the one hand, tourism, as one of the most promising industries in the 21st century, provides people with the great opportunity to see everything there is to see and to go any place there is to go. It has become a lifestyle for some people, and has turned out to be the driving force in GDP growth. It has the magic to turn a backward town into a wonderland of prosperity. But on the other hand, many problems can occur---natural scenes aren't natural anymore. Deforestation to heat lodges is devastating Nepal. Oil spills from tourist boats are polluting Antarctica. Tribal people are forsaking their native music and dress to listen to U2 on Walkman and wear Nike and Reeboks.
All these 7) appalling(令人震惊的) facts have brought us to the realization that we can no longer stand by and do nothing, because the very thought of it has been 8) eroding(侵蚀) our resources.
Encouragingly, the explosive growth of global travel has put tourism again in the spotlight, which is why the United Nations has made the year of ecotourism, for the first time to bring to the world's attention the benefits of tourism, but also its capacity to destroy our ecoenvironment.
Now every year, many local ecoenvironmental protection organizations an: receiving donations--big notes, small notes or even coins--from housewives, 9) plumbers(水管工人), ambulance drivers, salesmen, teachers, children and 10) invalids(残疾人), Some of them can not afford to send the money but they do. These are the ones who drive the cabs, who nurse in hospitals, who are suffering from ecological damage in their neighborhood. Why? Because they care. Because they still want their Mother Nature back. Because they know it still belongs to them.
This kind of feeling that I have, ladies and gentlemen, is when it feels like it, smells like it, and looks like it, it's all coming from a scene to remember, a scene to recall and to cherish.
The other night, as l saw the moon linger over the land and before it was sent into the invisible, my mind was filled with songs. I found myself humming softly, not to the music, but to some- thing else, someplace else. a place remembered, a place untouched, a field of grass where no one seem to have been except the deer.
And all those unforgettable scenes strengthened the feeling that it's lime for us to do something, for our own and our coming generation. Once again, I have come to think of Mrs. Dian Fossey be- cause it's with her spirit, passion, courage and strong sense of our ecoenvironment that we are taking our next step into the world.

Good morning / afternoon / evening! My name is Liu zi yuan. The title of my speech is the relationship between creativity and imagination.
There is no creativity without imagination. With the development of the society, creativity becomes more and more important. People could not satisfy with ordinary life. So we need creativity to meet their requirements. We can see significance of the creativity from an example. The smart phone—iphone spread all over the world. That was the creativity of The Apple Inc. It is obvious that it will produce a bigger profit than common manufacturing. But, hao can we acquire creativity?
I think the creativity roots in imagination. Albert Einstein said that imagination is important than knowledge. Because we should creative a thing that is never appeared, we need to image. Use all the things and information around us to think and then go to achieve it. Without the imagination of the Wright brothers , human could not complete the flying dreams. Without the imagination of the Alexander Graham Bell, we could not hear the voice from a distance. If the creativity can make the human progress, imagination will be the road to success. Where the imagination come from? Knowledge ? Experience ? practice? I consider that all of them are indispensable. It is often said that knowledge is power. So we should empower ourselves with knowledge. After that we need to obtain experience form. practice. These are the basis, and we must strengthen them to extend our imagination.
As contemporary college students, we must shoulder the responsibility of the future of our motherland. What we need is not only the knowledge of the past, but also is the innovation of a new field. Our thought can not be bound by the old things. We should understand that an excellent nation is always full of creativity. So we must promote our imagination.
