Today’s tip is on how syllable stress can affect the meaning of words.

Remember that stressed syllables are said louder and are lengthened, and unstressed syllables are pronounced more softly, and often have the vowel sounds reduced.

Today let’s concentrate on the most common sound linking situation.

Whenever a word ending in a consonant sound is followed by a word beginning with a vowel sound, the consonant sound is linked to the vowel sound as if they were part of the same word.

Let’s look at some examples.

I’d like another bowl of rice, please.

First, note that although there’re six words in the sentence, all the words are linked together without pause.

Listen again.

1.一定的词汇量是英语口语的基础。

我们与人交流的前提是要听懂别人在讲什么,因此我们在英语口语的练习中首先要注意词汇量的积累.其方式多样,如阅读、做题、听录音、看录像或原文电影等,来扩大词汇量、掌握英语的习惯表达方式,扩大知识面和训练英语逻辑思维能力。这些训练,可使我们熟练掌握常用的词组、短语等。只有熟练,会话才能流利,与人交流才能不假思索地脱口而出。

2.通过中西文化及语言的差异比较,设计日常口语会话情景,训练日常口语会话。

要熟练掌握日常口语会话,就必须掌握范围广阔的、基本得当的日常用语,如怎样表示想与陌生人交谈;怎样表示喜爱与厌恶,赞同与异议;怎样问路与指路等。自己设计情景,组织会话,并进行反复实践。在实践中仔细对比英语语言习惯、规律,文化背景等与汉语不同的地方,只有掌握了英语的语言文化才能更好地理解和运用英语。

3.通过对日常生活题材的讨论,逐步提高语言的组织能力。英语口语学有所成的方法

对日常生活题材的讨论是我们训练口语能力的一个重要阶段。在这个阶段中,我们通过参加多种形式的讨论活动与交流扩大知识面,促进思维能力及驾驭语言的能力。

4.听力的培养不可忽视。

听与说是一种相辅相成的关系,听不明白就会给交流带来很大的麻烦。听力困难主要有三个方面的原因:1)语言本身的困难。如:语法、句型、发音的基础不够扎实。2)文化内容上的困难。3)心理障碍.听英语的潜在困难属于心理障碍,如总感到被动,无把握,过分紧张等。

5.创造一个适当的语言环境。

《语言习得》认为:只有处于适当的语言环境中,语言的学习才能达到最好的效果。在平时的学习生活中,我们应寻找一切机会,有意识地锻炼自己听和说方面的能力,坚持和有决心学英语的同伴每天用英语对话二三十分钟,让对方指出自己常犯的错误。其次应多听英语磁带,英语广播,多参加英语沙龙和组织英语讨论,多接触英语读物,造成潜意识的“听”和“说”训练,有助于矫正口音上的偏误。除以上所提方法之外,还可参加英语角、英语俱乐部、英语演讲比赛、英语知识竞赛等各种活动。这些活动能在不自觉中增强我们对英语的学习兴趣,营造培养口语技能的良好环境,在不知不觉中提高我们的英语口语水平。

中小学生英语口语学习技巧

1.磨练“厚脸皮”

语言练习是一个不断犯错、纠错的反复过程。要想口语好,就只有克服自卑和恐惧,厚着脸皮多说才行,不能怕人笑话。这样你就会在学习中特别注意有用的词汇和句型,使自己的表达既符合英语的习惯,又有丰富的内容。

2.多模仿

学习口语不能急于求成,可以从基础的句型训练开始。机械的句型训练可以掌握句子的基本结构,学到地道的表达方式,避免汉语式英语。另外经常大声朗读英文,使嘴部肌肉运动能适应英语发音的需要。

3.多参与

这里的多参与有两层意思,一是多参与课堂活动,二是多参与课外的英语活动。比如和外教一对一练口语,尤其是课时费一次一结的课程,费用风险低,无后顾之忧。但是,课堂时间毕竟有限,你应该尽可能地充分利用课余时间练习口语。可以多参加英语角、英文歌曲演唱等活动,也可以和几个同学在一起练习口语。
